The Boring Writer's Life

What, me worry?

Ever worry about something so much you forget to worry about the important stuff? Lose sight of the big picture? Like that old saying, "don't sweat the details; and it's all details."

And worry, it turns out--that endless negative feedback loop--gets in the way of doing what needs to be done. It gets in the way of living.

I worry about paying the bills (who doesn't?), so I worry about where the next freelance job is coming from. I get a freelance job and worry about not having enough time to work on the new novel, which is where the BIG money is going to come from. I finish the freelance job, have time to work on the novel, and worry that I'm not making good use of the time because I'm worried about when the next freelance job is coming in so I'll have enough money to pay the bills. (There's never enough money. Ever notice that?)

If we don't worry about it, will it resolve itself? Or is that magical thinking? Maybe the more constructive thing to do is take action. Think through the problem and DO something.

Oh, all this thinking just confuses me. What, me worry?
